Gloucestershire Energy from Waste Facility announces first art competition

  • The Gloucestershire Energy from Waste Facility has announced its first-ever art competition.

  • Entrants are asked to represent the Facility through their chosen artistic medium.

  • Two winners, one under 18 and one adult, will have their artwork exhibited in the Facility’s Visitor Centre and will receive an exclusive behind-the-scenes tour of the site.

Today, (11th July, 2022) the Gloucestershire Energy from Waste Facility has announced its first-ever art competition, giving two winners, one under the age of 18 and one adult, in Gloucestershire the opportunity to win a behind-the-scenes tour of the site. The competition requires entrants to create a representation of the Facility through a medium of their choice, including painting, drawing, sculpting, collaging, etc. A selection of the best artwork, including the winners’ creations, will be displayed in an exhibition in the Facility’s Visitor Centre, which will be able to be viewed on site tours.

The prize will give the winners an opportunity to visit areas of the Facility which are not usually available to view during regular week-day tours. This includes a view of the top of the boiler, a visit to the roof, and a chance to operate the waste crane.

The winners will be able to take a maximum of three people with them on the tour. The competition will run until midnight on Monday 22nd August 2022, giving entrants six weeks to create their artwork. The winners will be announced by the end of August, based on what the judging panel believes to be the most creative and unique entries. Winners will be able to agree their preferred date to visit as part of their prize.

Dan Pearson, General Manager, commented:

“We have been operating now for almost three years and we are always thinking of new ways to engage the local community alongside recent activities such as our community open day. Since tours have restarted, we have received positive feedback about how people view the Facility as a landmark and this competition is another way in which people can visualise their perception. Whether you are an artist or a complete novice, we want to see your creations!”

To submit artwork, entrants must complete the entry form and send a digital photo or file via email to mdelatorre@urbaser.co.uk with the subject line “Arts competition 2022”. A selection of the best artwork, including the winners’ creations, will be available to view on the website and so all entrants must indicate whether they are happy to showcase their creations. Please see the Terms and Conditions of the competition and Entry Form before entering.
