Facility receives rave reviews after its first-ever open day

The Gloucestershire Energy from Waste Facility held its first-ever open day on Saturday 26th March, 2022. Visitors to the site were able to learn about the energy from waste process and see first-hand how the Facility operates. Over 40 people attended and were given the opportunity to watch the official Facility film describing the on-site process, before having a tour of various operational areas where they could view, amongst other things, the waste cranes, combustion grate, and stack.

As the event took place on a Saturday, attendees were also able to view the bottom ash processing plant which is typically unavailable for regular mid-week visits due to operational reasons. This part of the site processes the non-combustible material left after the energy from waste process to recover metals and aggregates which can be used in the construction industry. The next open day is expected to take place in November 2022 and the Facility will announce more details at a later date.

A visitor from the open day said: “Having driven past many times, I have always wondered what it was like inside and now I know! The tour was excellent, really informative, and our tour guide was very knowledgeable and helpful. ”

Dan Pearson, General Manager at the Gloucestershire Energy from Waste Facility, said: “It was fantastic to finally welcome people to our first open day, having had to reschedule several times due to the COVID-19 lockdowns. We’ve received positive feedback from visitors who enjoyed their time learning about the energy from waste process and seeing what happens at the Facility. If you would like to attend our next open day, stay tuned for the announcement of our autumn event later this year.”

The Facility recently announced that it would reopen for new group bookings as of May 2022, having previously prioritised postponed visits due to the pandemic. However, due to high demand, all spaces for the remainder of 2022 have now been filled.
