Gloucestershire Energy from Waste Facility announces date for the first open day of 2024

The Gloucestershire Energy from Waste Facility will host its next open day on Saturday 16th March 2024, providing visitors with the opportunity to learn about the energy from waste process and to see the plant and on-site equipment first-hand.

Visitors will be invited to view the different elements of the Facility, including the waste cranes, the combustion grate, and the stack. The three, one-hour sessions are scheduled for 10am, 11:30am, and 1pm, and will include a tour of the site. Each session will host a maximum of 15 people and is intended for individuals or small groups, such as families, couples, and friends. Allocation of places will be made on a first come, first served basis. The minimum age for attending the event is 7 years old, with a requirement for any child between the ages of 7 and 18 to be accompanied by an adult. For any questions regarding accessibility, please contact the team at the Facility to discuss your needs.

This will be the fifth in a series of open day events held on-site to inform the public about how the Facility is used to convert waste into energy, recover materials from household residual waste for recycling and minimise the county’s reliance on landfill.

Dan Pearson, General Manager, said:

“Following the success of the previous, fully booked events, as well as the exceptional demand for our regular tours, we’re thrilled to welcome more residents from across the county to another unmissable day of learning. We want to inform the local community about the benefits of energy from waste and sustainable waste management, and we can’t wait to share our other upcoming plans – so look out for updates on our website, Facebook group, or join the mailing list for our quarterly Newsletter.”

To book your place on the next open day in March, please complete the Open Day Request Form accessible on the Facility’s website.*

Details on how to book visits for individuals, groups, or schools can be viewed on the website. While tour bookings are currently closed due to high demand, they are expected to open later in the spring of 2024. School tours for the next academic year are still available to book from October 2024 onwards.

*Please note: Due to exceptional demand, all spaces for this open day have now been filled.  The next open day is currently scheduled for autumn 2024 so please make sure you are following our Facebook Group to find out when it will take place.
