Planned annual maintenance outage for 2023 announced
/The Gloucestershire Energy from Waste Facility has announced the start date for the next planned annual maintenance outage, which will take place from Tuesday 12th September and will last around two weeks. During the outage, the mechanical process will be shut down and regular day-to-day operations will cease, including general tours of the Facility. The annual activity allows the Facility to carry out inspections, maintenance, and cleaning of equipment to ensure that ongoing operations continue to run efficiently and in accordance with the environmental requirements defined by the Environment Agency.
From 1st September, a number of containers including non-permanent office cabins and one marquee will be brought to the site and are expected to remain for approximately six weeks. Household residual waste deliveries are not anticipated to be affected, however, waste from commercial sources will be suspended until Monday 25th September. General tours of the site will resume on Tuesday 26th September.
As with previous years, representatives from the Community Liaison Group and Gloucestershire County Council have been informed of the outage to ensure that the local community is aware of the activity.

“The Facility has been in operation for almost four years and we’ve been delighted with the performance so far. The yearly maintenance outage allows the Facility the chance to maintain hard-to-reach equipment and ensure operations remain efficient and, most importantly, safe. General tours will recommence when the outage has finished with new bookings expected to be available later this year, so stay tuned for more information soon.”
Earlier this year, bookings for general tours were paused due to high demand, however, school visits are still available to reserve on the Site Tours and Visitor Centre page.
