Gloucestershire Energy from Waste Facility reveals the date for the next open day

  • The Gloucestershire Energy from Waste Facility has revealed that the next open day will take place on Saturday 18th March 2023.

  • Visitors will be educated on the energy from waste process and how the Facility operates.

  • Due to exceptional demand, regular tours are booked up until early 2024.

The Gloucestershire Energy from Waste Facility is set to host its next open day on Saturday 18th March 2023. Following the first two successful and fully booked events, the open day gives visitors the chance to learn about the energy from waste process, whilst also seeing, first-hand, the on-site plant and equipment. Regular visits, which reopened to the general public in May 2022, have proven so popular that the Facility is fully booked until early 2024 and so this open day is one of the few opportunities left to see it this year.

The three one-hour sessions, intended for small groups such as families, couples and friends, will each host a maximum of 15 people and will take place at 10am, 11:30am, and 1pm. Visitors are invited on a tour of the site to view and understand the different elements of the energy from waste process, including the waste cranes, the combustion grate and the stack. Previous attendees have said that “the tour was excellent, really informative” and that “our tour guide was very knowledgeable and helpful.”

This open day is part of the Gloucestershire Energy from Waste Facility’s latest collection of activities to inform residents on the processes involved in recovering energy from household residual waste, as well as diverting it from landfill.

Dan Pearson, General Manager, said:

“With two triumphant open days under our belts and exceptional demand for our regular tours, we’re excited to welcome more residents across our county for another unmissable day of learning. It’s important that we help educate the local community about the benefits of energy from waste and sustainable waste management and we’re hopeful that these events are helping people to feel more involved with what we do.”
