Gloucestershire Energy from Waste Facility announces first ever art competition winner

This week, Gloucestershire Energy from Waste Facility announced the winner of its first ever art competition. Competition entrants were asked to create their own representation of the Facility, using their chosen artistic medium, including painting, drawing, sculpting, and collaging. Melanie Gibson from Standish came first with her painting of the site and she will have her work exhibited at the Facility’s Visitor Centre, and will receive an exclusive behind-the-scenes tour of the site.

She will be able to bring three guests on her site tour, which allows her to visit areas of the Facility which are not usually available to view during regular week-day tours. This includes a view of the top of the boiler, a visit to the roof, and a chance to operate the waste crane. The art competition, which was announced in July 2022, was the first of its kind and is set to be the start of a tradition that will help engage the local community with what’s happening at the Energy from Waste Facility.

Dan Pearson, General Manager, commented:

“This art competition is a great way to see how people view the Facility and we’re delighted with the creations that we have received. Melanie’s beautiful painted interpretation really stood out. We can’t wait to welcome Melanie on her tour and display her work to other visitors in our Visitor Centre.”
