Project Update Bulletin 3

The project update bulletin provides the latest progress about the construction of Gloucestershire’s Energy from Waste plant.

Much of the site preparation work has now been completed with the first major elements of the construction plant arriving on site this week to commence the foundation works. The tall, rotary piling rigs will drill the holes for the installation of reinforced concrete piles that will support the main buildings, the waste bunker, and process plant. Cranes will be used to insert the steel reinforcement ‘cages’ into the bored holes.

Concrete will be delivered, premixed, in lorries. The piling phase of construction will continue for around three months. As sections or phases of the piling are completed, the concrete capping beams and floor slabs will be cast at ground level to support the building elements.

Other works on site comprise the installation of drainage and construction-related services (power, lighting etc.), and erection of the construction ‘village’ which will comprise a number of pre-fabricated office units. These should start to arrive on site in early November.

Some 30 people, Urbaser Balfour Beatty and sub-contractors’ staff and plant operatives, are now on site daily. Site tidiness, working conditions and Health and Safety are being maintained to a high standard.
